A Triolet is a poetic form consisting of only 8 lines. Within a Triolet, the 1st, 4th, and 7th lines repeat, and the 2nd and 8th lines do as well. The rhyme scheme is simple: ABaAabAB, capital letters representing the repeated lines. This Triloet is written in iambic tetrameter with each line being 8 syllables in length.
We once learned why the caged bird sings.
And kept her trapped despite her plea.
Discount achievements that she brings.
We once learned why the caged bird sings.
Her voice uplifts her children’s wings.
Breaking the chains to set them free.
We once learned why the caged bird sings.
And kept her trapped despite her plea.
‘Her voice uplifted her children’s wings….’

Nicely penned! In fact, I just uploaded a ‘Triolet’ of my own onto my blog. It’s linked below. I’d love it if you would have a look over it and leave me some tips on how to improve. I’m sure I could learn a lot from you. I hope you like it!
